2023 Barefoot Beach Club Cruise - Huge Success

It only took 3 years from the time of the original booking until we actually got to go on this cruise as a group. We booked in 2020 to travel in 2021 and COVID changed those plans. We rescheduled to travel in 2022 but I was diagnosed with breast cancer and was not able to travel and lead the group. Finally in Feb. 2023 we made it to Puerto Rico and embarked on the Norwegian Epic for a fabulous cruise through the Caribbean.

Our ports of call were Aruba, Curacao, St. Kitts and St. Lucia. Every island was amazing in it’s own way and did not disappoint. In my opinion St. Lucia was the most beautiful but I think Curacao was the most intersting. Aruba of course is “One Happy Island” which is boldly stated on their license plates.

2019 Barefoot Beach Club Cruise

We had another successful trip for the Barefoot Beach Club this year. This was the 12th annual trip and we cruised on the Norwegian Breakaway. New Orleans was our embarkation port and we spent a couple days there enjoying the Mardi Gras festivities. Then we cruised to Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico and Harvest Caye in Belize. We had Capt. Josh with us again as our entertainer of choice as well as his lovely wife, Laurie.

The yearly trips are planned for the Barefoot Beach Club but are open to anyone 21 years of age or older.

Norwegian Sky Cruise to Cuba

Beacon Vacations escorted a group cruise to Cuba in October of 2017,  We had 38 travelers from 5 different states across the country.  It was an amazing trip with an extreme lack of souvenir shops!  We are so glad we were able to travel there before the changes of American Tourism effect the culture and authenticity of the country.

We were able to tour the National Cemetery, the National Hotel, Revolutionary Square, as well as many famous bars like La Bodeguita Del Medio where Hemmingway went to have a Mojito and Sloppy Joes where he went to have a Cuba Libre.  We also had the opportunity to ride around town in a classic American car.  The cars are absolutely beautiful and all are hand painted by the owners.  They are extremely careful with their vehicles as getting parts is almost impossible.

The people of Cuba spoke freely about their government and living conditions.  Everyone works for the government so in their words "The government pretends to pay us, so we pretend to work".  Medical care and education is free, but you have no freedoms of choice.  Many families live in a home meant for 4-6 people but actually 10 or more live there.

You may have heard in the news that changes are again making it difficult to travel to Cuba but that is only true for individuals.  You can still travel in groups through approved venders that provide the necessary people to people educational exchanges.  Norwegian is one of the companies that has these trips available.  The Norwegian Sky sails to Cuba every week from Monday through Friday and then goes to the Bahamas from Friday through Monday.  You can book either portion of the week or both destinations.  One great thing about this cruise is that it is all inclusive so you don't have a huge bar bill at the end.

CUBA, The new Caribbean Destination for Americans.

Cruising to Cuba will be big in 2017!

There are still a lot of rules and regulations concerning travel to Cuba.  The cruise lines are making it easy for Americans to follow all the rules without too much worry.  It is still possible today to take a cruise without a passport, although we highly recommend you have one.  You can travel with your birth certificate as long as the cruise departs from the same port it returns to in the US.  This is not going to be true on cruises with stops in Havana, Cuba.  It will not only be required to have a passport but a visa as well.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines will be obtaining the visas for all passengers going to Cuba on one of their ships.  Of course there will be an added fee for this service but it takes the responsibility off the mind of the traveler.  Royal Caribbean will also be offering several different excursions that will meet the requirements for travel to Cuba.  As long as you take one of their excursions you will not have issues.  If you do not take one of their excursions you will be required to sign an affidavit stating you are traveling for one of the 12 reasons allowed.
